About the Author
Corie Goodson, MPH CHES has been talking to people about health for as long as she can remember. After earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Community Health Education, she worked as a health educator within several Health Maintenance Organizations. Her primary job was to teach clients how they could turn their health around through diet and lifestyle after they had already become sick. Unfortunately, trying to fix what had already been broken was extremely frustrating.
She went on to get her Master’s degree in Public Health so that she could teach at the community college level, with the idea that teaching prevention could perhaps keep people healthier as they aged by arming them with knowledge. Again, the reality was that she could only capture a very small fraction of the population with this effort.
With children’s health being such an important and timely issue she decided to change her focus. She became a health promotion speaker, doing seminars wherever people would listen. That is where the idea for this book was born. Tween Kwisine:The Road to Better Health is intended to be a fun interactive way to instill some of the health education that might otherwise be lacking and be entertaining as well as reintroduce the joy of cooking to our kids. Corie believes that teaching prevention is the key to a healthier future.
She also believes that kids should enjoy the food they are creating and eating and that moderation not deprivation promotes a more consistent pattern over a lifetime. Kids provide the perfect palate for learning and change. Teaching them the importance of nutrition at an early age will help them live the healthiest lives possible.
