About the Artist
Julie Malfitano grew up at the base of the Rocky Mountains in Longmont, Colorado. From the instant she could hold a pencil Julie has dedicated every spare moment drawing anything and everything that came to mind. Her favorite subjects have always been whimsical cartoon characters and fairytale creatures, but she also adores painting classical portraits of children and families in natural settings.
Julie had always planned to pursue a career as a commercial artist and in 1996 she graduated from The Art Center of Albuquerque with a degree in Advertising Art. Because of her diversity and ability to render art in numerous mediums and styles, she became very successful but eventually became stifled by the nature of the business and longed for more creative freedom and flexibility.
In the year 2001 with the loving support of her husband, she left advertising behind and began working as a freelance portrait artist and illustrator where she could freely express herself and spend more time with her family. Despite the cut in income and a few lifestyle adjustments, it is a decision Julie has never regretted. Every day brings new adventures carried on the wings of her two beautiful children who constantly inspire her and her loving husband who never stops believing in her.
